Today's world is stupid, it is throwaway. They get things and they throw it away. Or put it in the

basement.
This was written in 1951, clear away from the age of stupid. Now, this book shows you the basics of

drawing.
And that's what it does. Along with some wonderful drawings by Andrew Loomis.
Instead of babbling on, here are some of the things you will find inside the book.

First a great drawing, then this:

'All drawing stems from one or more of these forms.'
Round.
Square.
Cylindrical.
Conical.
Pyramidal.
(Along with small drawings right beside them to illustrate what each one means)

(Later in the book it is discussed what makes a drawing good or successful)

The five P's.
Proportion.
Placement.
Perspective.
Planes.
Pattern.

The five C's.
Conception.
Construction.
Contour.
Character.
Consistency.
(Along with small drawings right beside them to illustrate what each one means)

An excerpt.
'In art schools, a subject is usually set up before us, and we simply have to draw what is there. It is

not too hard to draw a cube that is set up before us. What we must learn is to draw an imaginary cube at

any eye level, to fit into any set of circumstances. The importance of this will be understood when you

know that almost any object may be drawn in perspective from a cube or black, since that represents the

over-all three dimensions of anything we draw.Even a sphere fits compactly into the cube. The cube or

block may be thought of as the box that will fit around anything in the universe.'
