Over thousands of years, running water has carved its niche through the limestone bedrock of the escarpment. Massive slabs of limestone lay where they dropped at the base of the twin waterfalls carved by the river. The Lower Falls are bracketed on one side by a cliff face that dominates the rocky terrain. If you look carefully, the entrance of a hidden cave can be glimpsed behind the cascading waters.
